ALLITERATIVE PARAGRAPH
THE WINNERS' WORK. Below appear the winning entries for the alliterative paragraph competition which was conducted in the Budget a fortnight ago.
SADIE'S SECRET. (First by Dudley Cole, "Tanna Wata," Kaitieke.)
SYNOPSIS. Sister Sadie (surname Stevens). — Slender sentimental sociable, sweet seventeen. Suiter (Sandy Scott).—Stalwart, solemn. sunburnt, Scotch settler, sadly smitten. - #»cne. —Secluded *Tiady spot, Saturday, sunshine setting.
Sister Sadie's saddle strap snapped suddenly, saddle slipped, Sadie's stood, ''Spitfire," shied savagely, snorting spiritedly. Sadie scared, squealed shrilly, spurring "Spitfire." Sandy showing stupendous strength, success-
fully seized "Spitfire," saving Sadie serious spill. Sympathetically supporting Sadie, suffering shock, Sandy showing sincere solictude, said, "Surely saddle straps should support such slendernessj sufmise scarcely seven stone. Sadie stirred slightly, sighed softly, seeing Sandy, smiled sweetly. Sequence: "Say," sweetheart," stuttered Sanely shyly, staring sheepishly skywards, "Suppose sometime Sadie swaps surname Stevens, substituting Scott, seems stunning sequel." Sadie soon singularly serene, smiled sedately. "Surely Sandy," she said simply.

Archie Applejohn, an audacious amateur airman, ardently adored Angelina Adair, an attractive and ambitions artist. Alas! Angelina's ancient and autocratic Aunt Amelia absolutely abhorred Archie's attentions. An April afternoon, as Angelina artistically arranged asters, an aeroplane appeared and Archie alighted and approached Angelina's and Aunt Amelia's abode. '"Ah, Angelina! art afraid attempt an ■aerial ascent V asked Angelina's adniinr anxiously. Angelina archly agreed accompany Archie. Alack! Aunt Amelia appealed * and arrogantly asserted, "Auntie always accompanies Angelina." Angelina annoyed! Archie, always affable, agreed auntie's attendance. \loft auntie actually admired Archie s astonishhi',' adroitness and audacity at aeroplane antics. Arriving at Auckland after an amusing afternoon. Archie art.fully applauded Aunt Amelia's amazmu agility at alighting. Afterwards, Aunt Amelia admitted Archie's attractiveness and advised Aiicclina accept Archie adding app.rov inotr, •■Archie's an admirable aviator and'also awfully aristocratic." Angelina 1 amiably agreed.
