HOCKEY CARNIVAL.

KING'S BIRTHDAY TOURNEY.

FIVE HUNDRED PJLAYERS.

GIRLS IN RADIANT COLOURS

Five hundred players representing all the.hockey clubs of Auckland took port in the King's Birthday tournament at Kcniuera to-day. There were 72 teams in the seven-a-eide games.

Girls in radiant jumpers of red, blue, green and white, with coloured woollen caps, and college teams in gymnasium dresses with belts and head 'bands in thei." school colours, made up thirty of the teams. Their bright appearance was perhaps rivalled by the school boys an i men in striped blazers that were reminiscent of Joseph and his coat of many colours. It was a typical carnival sccno.

The thirteen acres of mowed " grass, divided into nine grounds, had a sprir.a green appearance, and though sliglif!,soft on account of recent rains, were in a. condition to allow of a gonrl standard of play. This, combined with iho la>-\, that the games were limited to l> minutes, resulted in sparkling duplayn. Points scored from penalty and corner shots decided thp result in cases where the teams were- level at thc close of their games.

Both the Auckland Hockey Associations, representing the laxlics' and men's division of the game, combined in the control of the day's programme. Miss Twiuajno and Mr. E. J. Hewitt were the juint secretaries.

Six trophies were awarded for competition, three for the men and three for the girl players. The Trevor Davis Cup was the trophy for the 'highest aggregate of points scored in thc field sports and tournament games for men, with t.-.o Harvard Cup for the runncrs-up. T!i ?
