AUCKLAND AMATEUR CLUB

The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held their usual meeting on the Outer Domain grounds on Saturday. In spite of the weather the attendance was good, and some keen finishes were seen. Great interest was taken in the reappearance of J. W. Savidan, the New Zealand representative in the British Empire Games at Hamilton, Ontario, where he won the six-mile championship. Savidan started from scratch in the 2J-mile steeplechase, and won by 100 yds after a hard race. Results :—• 75 Yards Handicap.—First heat: E. N. Muir, 7ivds, 1 ; H. R. McNeil, 15yds, 2; R. J. Willey, sJyds, 3. Time, 7 3-ss. Second heat: J. W. Turribull, Byds, 1; W. G. Miller, 6yds, 2; J. U. Keddle, 6yds, 3 Time. 7 3-SS. Final: J. U. Keddle, 1; W. G. Miller, 2; R. J. Willey, 3. Time, 7 2-ss. Steeplechase, 2i miles. —There were 17 competitors in this race, which was started in front of the grandstand and run over four rounds of the Outer Domain, during which 13 hurdles were negotiated. The placings were: J. W. Savidan, scr, 1; C. Francis, 455, 2; J. Nicholson, 325, 3; M. McCarthv, 90s, 4; A. Clark. 180s, 5; G. \V. Rogers, SSs, 6; and H. McNiel, 105s, 7. The winner's time was 13.14, the second man, "Francis, doing the journey in 14.5. Throwing the Discus. —Fifteen competed in this event, E. Wheeler winning with a throw, of HSft llin; W. G. Thompson, 115 ft 7in, 2; T. Elliot, 113 ft. 3. A. Clark, 112 ft 2in, and R. J. Willey, 107 ft llin, were the next best. Putting the Shot.—Sixteen competed, the winner being R. J. Willey, with a throw of 39ft 4in; G. Elliot, SSft lOln, 2; J. C. Tipping, 38ft 6in, 3. J. Elliot, sen., 38ft, and W. J. Murphy, 37ft 9in, were the next best.
