PROPOSED MILK BOARD.

CONFERENCE ARRANGED. LOCAL BODY REPRESENTATIVES. A recommendation by the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, that a meeting ot representatives of the local bodies concerned 'b c convened to consider the proposal to set up a board to control the milk supply of the city, was adopted by the City Council last evening. "The MaVor said that a deputation, claiming to represent the producers and vmdors of 7500 gallons of milk daily to the city, out of a total of 10,000 or 11,000 gallons, had presented him with a proposal, for submission to the Government, that, a board should be t-et up under the Department of Industries and Commerce, to zone areas of milk supplv, grant licenses to vendors for their respective areas, and fix a uniform price. It was proposed that the board should consist of delegates from the producers, vendors and local bodies, the last-named representing the consumers. The deputation had previously waited upon the Prime Minister, who had recommended it to obtain the general approval of the City Council, which would be necessary before the Department of Industries and Commerce could act. The deputation, said Mr. Hutchison, had then asked him to convene si i meeting of delegates from the loca. bodies in the districts served for the purpose of hearing representatives of the milk industry, and subsequently granting approval of the proposed board. The Mayor's recommendation that the meeting be convened, and that he and Messrs? Grey Campbell and T. Bloodworth represent the council, was adopted.
