NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE.
CONFERENCE AT WHANGAREI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. A convention, under the auspices of the New Zealand Alliance, in support of the abolition of the liquor traffic, was held in Whangarei yesterday. Delegates assembled from Port Albert, Warkworth, Paparoa, Dargaville, Tangiteroria, Kuawai, Titoki, Kanio, Te Materau, Hikurangi, Whakapara, and Whangarei. The Rev. W. J. Comrie, president of the New Zealand Alliance, in the course of an address bespoke loyalty to the cause. Sir George Fowlds dealt with the matter of finance, and stressed the need for liberal support. It was decided that all territory north of and including Maungaturoto and Maugawai be constituted a sub-area under the direction of the North Auckland Council. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. C. R. Lovatt; vice-president, Rev. W. M. Elliott; secretary, Rev. E. E. Sage.
