NEW ZEALAND-MADE GOODS.
GOVERNMENT'S PREFERENCE. ASSISTANCE TO EMPLOYMENT. The purchase of New Zealand-made •goods as a means to the employment of Dominion workmen was advocated by the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. U. W. Forbes, when speaking at Otahuhu last night. "The policy of the Government," said Mr. Forbes, "is to give preference in buying our requirements to the New Zealand articles, wherever possible, and in any case preference is given to British goods as against the foreign competitor. The Government recognises the importance of encouraging our own secondary industries, and in addition to assistance by tariff protection, renders material help in many other ways, particularly in applying the use of latest scientific research in various industries, and of placing expert knowledge at the disposal of manufacturers. "The importance of producing a highgrade quality cannot be too strongly emphasised, and the Government is keenly desirous of fostering in every way the development of New Zealand industrial enterprise. The people of the Dominion can largely help themselves in buying New Zealand goods, and thus materially assist in providing employment for large numbers of their fellow citizens." (Applause.)
