BRIDGE PARTY.
An unusually large bridge party afternoon was held in the Milne and Choyce reception hall yesterday when over 100 tables were in, use. The party, which was organised by Mrs. >. T ello Porter, assisted by Miss Maida Hooker and Miss Berta Can , , was a benefit for Miss Ida Lockwood, a well known Auckland violinist, who is at present suffering from an illness. During afternoon tea a short programme of musical items was given. Miss Berta Carr sang "Ouvres Tes Yeux Bleux" and "Song of the Open," Miss Maida Hooker played "Gardens in the Rain," and '"Dust , " and Mr, Haydn Murray (violin) played "La Capricciosa" and "Pierrot Serenade." A brief epeeeli was made by the Mayoress, Mrs. G. W. Hutchison, who said that Mise Lockwood's playing was known, to a good number present and many had at various times asked her help in concerts and charitable entertainments. They had always found her ready and willing to help whenever she could. By attending the bridge party the guests had enabled the organisers to hand over £40 to Miss Lockwood, and they did this with their sincerest wishes for her speedy recovery. A letter from Mise Lockwood expressing her appreciation of all that was being]
done was read by Mrs. Porter. The prizes which wore presented for bridge were dainty articles made by Miss Lockwood herself. The spacious reception hall looked delightful for the occasion, with masses of bright autumn flowers, and to accommodate the guests tables were also arranged on the balcony and at the lower end of the room.
