UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEM.
ADDRESS BY MR. C. R. PETRIE. Speaking at Kaihere last evening, Mr. C. R. Petrie, the Labour candidate in the Hatiraki by-election, made special mention of the unemployment problem. He was supported by Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P. for Raglan. Mr. Petrie 6aid there was as great a need now for a policy that would attack the problem fundamentally as there was when the United Government assumed office. The Labour party insisted that work of economic value and at standard rates should l>e found for all willing workers for whom there was no private employment. At Favona (Mangere) Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., spoke on behalf of the candidate, while a meeting at Maramarua was addressed by Mr. J. S. Montgomery.
