YACHT RANGI ON COAST.
EIGHTEEN I>AYS> CROSSING.
MAY REACH AUCKLAND SUNDAY.
It is expected that the yacht Rangi, which passed Cape Maria Van Diemen yesterday afternoon, will reach Russell to-night or to-morrow. It is hoped that she will arrive at Auckland 011 Sunday. When the Rangi passed Cape Maria yesterday she signalled " All well." This is the first report received from the yacht since she left Sydney on May 2. It is believed that the boat went well north off the main steamer route, in order to experience warmer weather than when she sailed to Sydney as a competitor in the Tasman race. In crossing the Tasman in 18 days the Rangi made a much smarter crossing than expected, as on the eye of sailing one of the members ■of the crew advised his relatives not to expect the boat home before the end of the month. It was mentioned at this time that the yacht might call at either Lord Howe Island or Norfolk Island. Before leaving Sydney the yacht was equipped with a new mainsail of heavy canvas, which was shipped from New Zealand. The navigator of the Rangi is Lieu-tenant-Commander W. C. Juler, who sailed her in the race. Her crew consists of Messrs. D. Kirkcaldic and A. Clarke, xvho sailed in her from Auckland, and Mr. S. Marshall, another New Zealaiuler, who - joined the boat in Sycl*. ney in place of Mr. E. Spraggon, who was unable to remain in Sydney long enough to complete the round voyage. Mr. W. A. E. Leonard, the owner of the Rangi, was delighted when he heard that the Rangi had been sighted, and said that Commander Juler and his crew ivere to be congratulated in making a successful trip under adverse conditions. He left for Russell this morning, and will sail down the coast in his boat.
