BIRKENHEAD VOTING.

MAYOR RE-ELECTED. CLOSE POLL FOR COUNCIL. Mr. J. P. McPhail, the retiring Mayor, won a triangular contest for the Birkenhead M vyoralty, defeating Mr. F. Morris, a member of the old council, and Mr. E. C. Walton, a former Mayor. There was a close contest for positions on the council, three candidates securing 998 votes each, and two others 954 each.
