BIRKENHEAD VOTING.
MAYOR RE-ELECTED. CLOSE POLL FOR COUNCIL. Mr. J. P. McPhail, the retiring Mayor, won a triangular contest for the Birkenhead M vyoralty, defeating Mr. F. Morris, a member of the old council, and Mr. E. C. Walton, a former Mayor. There was a close contest for positions on the council, three candidates securing 998 votes each, and two others 954 each. Five members of the retiring council were re-elected. About 1400 electors voted out of a total roll number of ,2297. Details: — „ MAYORALTY. *J. P. McPhail 555 F. Morris 491 E. C.
