NEW LAND TAX.
AUTHORISED BY COMMONS. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. In the House of Commons the resolution authorising the new land tax was carried by 289 votes to 230. SEVERED CABLE. JAPAN'S, NOTE TO CHINA. TOKYO,. May 6. The Japanese Government has strongly protested to the Nanking Government at the cutting of the cable between Formosa and Foochow, and demands its immediate restoration. . The Government holds proofs that.the cutting was ordered by the- Chinese authorities.
