Sneering References to Wives of Members. LABOUR ILL-FEELING. • (Received 12 noon.) \ CANBERRA, this day. There was a scene in the House of Representatives when Mr. A. Tarkhill and Mr. J. M. Gabb, of the Lyons faction, took exception to what they called the "sneering references" made earlier iji the day by Mr. J. A. Beasley to Mrs. Lyons. Mr. J. C. Eldridge (a Beasley follower), speaking of Mrs. Lyons, asked the Government if the people were to be protected against ,outburts of "exiled queens" and "Sairey Gamps." The question was disallowed. Mr. Parkhill declared that it was the first time members had indulged in unchivalrous reference to statements by members' wives.
