OBITUARY.
DUKE OF SOMERSET. ' (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 6. The death has occurred of the Duke of Somerset at the age of 71. He was the 16th holder of the title. The dukedom of Somerset was created 'in 1547, and the late duke succeeded his cousin in 1923. He was educated at Tiverton and Sandhurst, and joined the Royal Dublin \Fusiliers in 1880. He was permanently transferred 'to the Army Ordnance Department in 1896, and later became Assistant Director of Equipment and Ordnance Stores to the War Office, in which capacity he served during the Great War. His heir, Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Seymour, followed much the same career as his father, serving in the same regiment, and later ueing attached to the War Office. He is a cricketer of some note, being a member of the M.C.C.
