"HIT BY THE SLUMP."
TIMBER MERCHANT BANKRUPT. CREDITORS' SYMPATHY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The fall in the price of wool and in the value of land, and the fact that business depression had caused him to put all his private assets into the business of William Goss, Limited, timber merchants, were the reasons given for his bankruptcy by William Goss to-day. His deficiency was estimated at f6700, with £20,000 owing to.secured creditors, and £2700 to unsecured creditors. Bankrupt .said he had invested over £9000 in a farm in 3larlborough. The farm did not pay, and it was taken over by the mortgagees last December. His timber firm had been hit by stagnation and depression. A few years ago he was a comparatively wealthy man. ' The Assignee and creditors expressed sympathy, and a resolution that he be allowed to retain hie furniture and effects, up to the value of £600, was carried. •
