PROTEST BY RICHMOND. A DECISION POSTPONED. RESERVE GRADE PRINCIPLE. A protest lodged by the Richmond Club against their match on Saturday being awarded to Marist Old Boys, was dealt with by the Auckland Rugby League last evening, sitting in committee in judicial capacity. The ground of appeal was that the game was played over time, during which Marists scored a try. The supporting letter quoted the rules on the subject and quoted incidents in the play bearing on the issue. The time-keeper (Mr Gibbons) gave evidence, and, after a lengthy discussion, in which several members offered their personal opinions the inquiry was adjourned for further consideration. The reinstatement of B. J. Otway, of Warkworth, was approved, subject to confirmation by the New Zealand League. The application of City Club for approved transfer of W. Shortland to City Club (Whangarei) was referred to the New Zealand Cou'ncil. Transfers granted were: R. Currie, A. Williamson and A. Henderson (Newmarket) to City Rovers: A. O. Porteous (Richmond), R. Jopson (Ponsonby), C. Kindley (Point Chevalier), and J. C. Craies (Akarana) to Newton Rangers; C. Whitehouse (Glen. Lynn) to Marist Old Boys; R, McDonald (Mount Albert to Po'nsonby). A large batch of new registrations was accepted, subject to being in order. Ten Parnell senior B players were regraded to first-class juniors, on behalf of City Club. Acting on a reported agreement at a conference held at Ellerslie, a regrading was granted of Mangere senior B team to first junior, the team to play as an Ellerslie-Otahuhu side. When fixtures were being discussed and a proposal was made that the three senior matches be played at Carlaw Park, Mr. J. Rukutai entered o strong plea against reserve senior teams being played other than before their top teams. He said that a vital principle was involved, and one that was at variation with the recommendations of the special committee which devised the new system of control. It was stated that arrangements were* in hand for using another suitable ground, and, except this week, the reserve grades would always play oil the same ground and before their top teams. Mr. Adamson supported Mr. Rukutai, but, with other members, was prepared to make this exception. The motion to play the three top teams at Carlaw Park on Saturday was carried, Mr. Rukutai dissenting. Messrs. R. Doble and J. Rukutai were appointed stewards to report on all curtain-raiser matches at Carlaw Park.
