WANGANUI MAYOR DEFEATED MISS HOLLAND SUCCESSFUL. Press Association messages from other centres south of Auckland give the following results:— Wanganui.—•X. G. Armstrong defeated the sitting Labour Mayor, W. (I. Rogers, by 29 votes in a record poll. Labour has three seats in the City Council. New Plymouth.—Mayoralty: V. H. S. Griffiths. Palmerston North.—Mayoralty-: A. E. Mansford, 4089; M. A. Elliott,'24os. vWairoa.—Mayoralty: H. L. Barker, 507; J. Corkill (sitting Mayor), 460. Timaru.—Mayoralty: T. W. Satterthwaite, 2247; W. Angland, 1670 (sitting Mayor); P. C. Vinnell, 1022. Hospital Board: The Rev. C. L. Carr, MP., was defeated; being bottom of the poll. There were five candidates for three vacancies. • Invercargill.—Mayoralty: John Miller j 3366; J. D. Campbell (sitting Mayor)] .3322. The half-holiday poll resulted-' Saturday. 3519; Wednesday (the present half-holiday), 3393. Westport.—Mayoralty: J. H. Harkness (re-elected), 903; G. Scandrett, 710. Hospital Board: Miss Agnes Holland (daughter of Mr. H. E. Holland, M P ) 1145; E. R. Fox, 692; W. P. Caldwell! 647. Ashburton.—Mayoralty: W. H Woods 1214, R. Kerr (sitting Mayor) 545. Council: R. Kerr was returned with old council. Hospital Board: Dr. J. R. Wells (re-elected), borough representative. Gore.—Mayoralty: A. T. Newman 1037, D. L. Poppelwell (sitting) 816. Mataura.—Mayoralty: C. D. McConnell (sitting) 316, J. H. Clark 257.
