SHOOTING SEASON.
A. FEW GOOD «BAGS." SOME DISAPPOINTED SHOTS. Wild duck appeared on a number of Auckland dinner tables yesterday, and the arrival of consignments of dead birds by train indicates that the- shooting eeason, which opened on Friday, is well under way. Some . sportsmen . report excellent results; others are less enthusiastic A good bag of ducks was secured on Friday and Saturday on. the Piako Swamp by an Auckland party consist: ing of Messrs. Chas. and E. Firth, Fa-ulker brothers and Austin Carr. Over 130 birds were brought down, and the ehots enjoyed excellent sport. Another part of four at Piako were less fortunate, and bagged only a dozen birds all told. Flights in the Rangiriri district are reported to have been poor, although Mr. F. Seccombe and a party of Aucklanders, shooting from Thompson's lagoon, secured the limit for five guns on Friday morning and brought down SO more birds on Saturday. In the Taupiri district the shooting so far has not been nearly as good as last year. Sportsmen report that, owing to the bright -weather, the birds are flying high, and, in most cases, are very wild.
