FATAL ACCIDENT.
COLLISION WITH CAR. MOTOR CYqLIST'S DEATH. PILLION RIDER SLIGHTLY HURT. As a result of his motor cycle crashing into the back of a motor car at the corner of Gladstone and Woodward Roads, Mount Albert, Mr. Arthur Lambert Lee received injuries from which he died on Saturday evening shortly after his admission to hospital. A pillion rider, Mr. Edward Hughes, received slight injuries. Mr. Lee, who wae 25 years of age, resided at 4, Vincent Terrace, Mount Albert. He was a, married man with two young children. Riding along Gladstone Road toward New North Road, Mr. Lee met the motor car, driven by Mr. M. J. Moore, of 38, Old Mill Road, Grey Lynn, just as it was turning into-Woodward Road. The motor cycle crashed into the car, throwing both Mr. Lee and Mr. Hughes to the ground. Mr. Lee was unconscious when picked up and was taken to the Auckland Hospital suffering from a fracture of the skull. He died shortly after admission. The cycle was badly damaged, the front portion being wrecked. The rear of the car was also damaged and the glass in one door was shattered. " Went On Without Light." An inquest was opened before the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., this morning, when Edward Hughes, a clerk in the New Zealand Railways, identified the body as that of hie brother-in-law. "We had been to the football at Eden Park," said witness, "and after it was over, we went to town on the motor bike. About six.o'clock I met Lee again, and I could see that he had had some drink, but he was not intoxicated and was fit to ride his cycle. We went home together. After tea, about seven o'clock, I was going to a friend's place, and Lee said he would run me down the road. We started off, and the light on the bike wae burning, but wae very feeble. Just before we reached New North Road, the light went out and wo went on without a light, travelling about 30 or 35 miles an hour. Near the intersection of Woodward Road, the headlights of a motor car swung round in front of the cycle. Lee swerved to the right. I do not remember anything else until I wae picked up in the middle of the road. I could not say at what pace the car was travelline" ~ The inquest was adjourned sine die.
