MARTON JOCKEY CLUB.

BUCK DUKE BEATS CHOPIN. OPEN SPRINT TO KEDDAR. MANIFESTO DISAPPOINTS SECOND START. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star."X MARTON, Saturday. The Marton Jockey Club held its winter meeting to-day under pleasant conditions, the course being a little /oft. The attendance was poor and speculation far from brisk, the totalisator handling only £6801.

Cashier All The Way. All started in the hurdles. Goldlike ( £105) was favourite with Birkbeck ( £114) next in demand. Cashier ( £U0) was third choice and the brother of Otairi signalled hie entry into the jumping game by winning trom end to end, the margin between nim and Tunbridge being ten lengths. Kopje, Goldlike, Princess Elizabeth and Calauiart lost a fair amount of ground at the start, and Caohiei- led over the first hurdle from Ex. Dono and Royal Damon, Birkbeek being at the head ot the buueh. Through the straight it was Cashier, Ex Dono, Goldlike, The Warden, Birkbeck, lloyal Damon, Tunbridge and Warzone, the field being well spread, out. Going along the back Cashier was bowling along easily in front well clear of Warzone, Tunbridge and Goldlike, and across the top wenc away from the field. Cashier turned for home seven or eight lengths ahead of Tuubridge, Warzone, Golcilike and Easterly. Cashier won as he liked by ten lengths, Tunbridge being a couple of lengths in front of Easterly. Warzone was fourth, followed by Goldlike and Royal Damon.

Easy For Manifesto. Kuollmere, Wallaruh and Valueless were withdrawn from the Dash Hack, and in the field of six the betting took a wide range, there being plenty of support for Manifesto, Hinewai, Chief Savage, .Derry lieiie and Fake Scent. Manifesto, Happy Hit and Derry Belle were iirst out trom a good start, but when the iield had. gone a furlong Happy Hit was acting as pacemaker closely attended by Manifesto, Hinewai and False Scent. Entering the straight Hinewai and Manifesto were together in front from Deny Belle and False Scent. In the run to the judge Manifesto drew away from the others and won nicely by the best part of three lengths. There was a good finish for eecond place, and Chief Savage came with a late run to head Derry Belle on the post. Hinewai was close up fourth. Spearform Finishes Well.

Grand Jury ( £331) was installed a good favourite for the Winter Hack, Glen Ros«ie ( £178) and Spearform ( £149) being tiie next in demand. There was a slight delay at the barrier, but the field went away in line, Grand Jury and Malahat showing the way out of the straight from Merry Melody, Jayson, Aurora 13orealis, Spearform and GlenRossie. Going round the turn Mahahat went to the front and led along the back from Merry Melody, Grand Jury, Aurora Borealis. Jayson was moving forward and across the top was in third place behind Malahat and Merry Melody. Grand Jury was in fourth place and Spearform was tailing a bunched field. Malahat still had' charge at the entrance to the straight, and turning for home the leaders were Malahat, Grand Jury and Jayson with the rest close up. In a good finish Malahat and Grand Jury were having a ding-dong tussle, but Spearform joined issue just short of the post and with a brilliant burst got the verdict by a length from Malahat, which was a neck in front of Grand Jury. Jayson was fourth, the next to firiish being Aurora Borealis.

Chopin Unlucky. For the chief event, the Crofton Handicap, Black Duke had most' friends (carrying £213), Palm being second favourite (£200). The race was an excellent one. Mount Shannon M'cnt to the front from the start and led out of the straight a couple of lengths clear of Pahu and Chopin, with another interval to Merry Damon and Black Duke. There was no alteration until three furlongs from home, when Pahu moved up on Mount Shannon. The order across the top was Mount Shannon, Palm, Chopin, Black Duke and Merry Damon, and thsre was little between them as they straightened up for the judge. As the bottom of the straight Pahu was just in front of Mount Shannon with Black Duke coming faet on the outer. Chopin was ehut in on the rails. At the distance Merry Damon joined issue and then Chopin got an opening, and in a good finish Black Duke won by half a length 'from the fastfinishing Chopin, Pahu being a neck away, third. Merry Damon was fourth. Chopin appeared to be the unlucky horse.

Knolhnere Wins Nicely. Knollniere ( £301) was a firm favourite for the Welter Hack, there being a drop of £143 10/ to the next fancy, Valueless. The favourite was first out from the barried, but when the field had settled down Cook was pacemaker, followed by Knollniere, Valueless, Saltpot, Arrowhead, Nightmare and Manuiri. There was little alteration to the straight, Knollniere being the first to turn for home just in iYoiit of Cook, Saltpot, Valueless and Blacksmith. In the run to the judge Knollmerc was never threatened and won nicely by a length and a half from Conk, there being a similar distance to Saltpot. Blacksmith was fourth, and then came Takahue, Nightmare and Valueless. Takahue would not face the barrier with the others and went away behind the field.

Keddar Pays Nice Price. Bliie Paper was entrusted with over half the money in the open sprint, and in a one-dividend race Keddar, the outsider, paid a price of close on double figures. Keddar was last to move when the barrier was released, and Blue Paper and Gold Cure showed the way along the back from Briar Root, Juggle and Keddar. The last-named commenced to move forward three furlongs from home and, turned into the straight behind Gold Cure and Blue Paper. Once in line for the judge lie quickly got on terms with the leaders and a great finish resulted. Blue Paper dropped out a furlong from the post, and Keddar and Gold Cure were left to fight it out, Keddar getting the verdict by half a head. Juggle came with a late run and was third only a neck away from Gold Cure.

Final Favourite Fails. Manifesto (£365), Leisure (£319) and Criniestor ( £225) carried most money in the final event. Leisure was first out, closely followed by Nightspeaker, DicK Whittington and Crimestor. Into the straight it was Leieure and Nightepeaker in front of Dick Whittington, False Scent, Crimestor and Sporting Chance. In the run to the judge Leisure finished gamely to get the verdict by a head from Zarene, who secured an opening on the rails and made up a lot of ground over the final bit. Nightspeaker was a length away third, and Crimestor was fourth. The placed horses were followed home by Manifesto and Dcrry Belle.
