Cambridge Trots.

GOLD TREASURE'S CUP. Margaret Wallace's Surprise.— Leamington to Bessie Parrish. There is a fair attendance at the Cambridge Trotting Club's annual meeting, which is taking place in beautiful weather. The course is in good order. Backers Start Badly. Punters started off badly, a rank outsider finishing first and paying nearly a quarter of a century. Arabond was made favourite, and carried £140, the next choice being the OliVer ThorpcMoko Chief bracket, with £132. On the winner there was only £20 10/ invested, while Great Tame was let go out with £38. Thelma Mack and Lady Linda were left badly. When they went away, the order was Cogent, Margaret Wallace, Minties, Great Fame, Arabond, and Tiny Rose. Passing the stand Cogent was leading Arabond, and then came Margaret Wallace, Minties, and Great Fame, the others being well back. Along the back Cogent was still in xront, followed by Minties, Margaret Wallace.. Arabond, and Great Fame, all being closely bunched, with Typist heading the others. Cogent led into the straight from Minties, Margaret Walh'.ce, and Great Fame, and in a good finish Margaret AVallace won nicely Dy a length from Great Fame, who was three lengths in front of Minties. The fourth house was Oliver Thorpe, and then finished Arabond, Cogent, Typist, and Jackie Thorpe. A Good Performance. Twelve horses paraded for the Leamington Handicap, the scratchings being Wiriwhata, Kohewah and Finoro. When backers got busy they elected Carl Mack favourite, carrying £317, while the investments on the second fancy, Bessie Parrish, were £222. The winner was only making her second appearance, and was responsible for an excellent performance. Bessie Parrish broke at the start and did not settle down until all the field had passed her. Bingen Bell was the early pilot, leading along the back from Wild Downs, Joy Ride, Bessie Parrish (who had put in a particularly fast run), Colonel Thorpe and Win Huon. Win Huon moved up at this stage and led past the stand from Wild Downs, Joy Ride and Bessie Parrish, who. was breaking. Crossing the top Bessie Parrish again moved fast into fourtn position. When the straight Was reached Win Huon had charge from Wild Downs, Joy Ride, Bessie Parrish and Black Magic. Both Bessie Parrish and Black Magic finished fast in the run home, but the first-named stayed on the better to win by a neck from Black Magic, with Win Huon four lengths away. Wild Downs was fourth, followed by Joy Ride and Golden Huia. Another' Outsider Scores. Our Peter was installed a warm favourite in the President's Handicap, a saddle event, the next best backed being Marionette with £2<J. High Sea carried only £91, and there was £130 invested on Nathaniel. Lord Nepean and Marosa began- badly and were hopelessly left. Nathaniel began like lightning and when he had gone a furlong he was about 10 lengths in front of Gaza and High Sea. Six lengths away came Daytime, the rest being well strung out. Nathaniel led along the back on his own, and at the five-furlong post High Sea headed Gaza with Daytime some distance behind. Nathaniel led into the straight well clear of High Sea and Gaza, but in the run to the judge Nathaniel tired and High Sea, finishing gamely got up to win by half a length from Nathaniel with Gaza three lengths away. Then finished Lady Author, Our Peter, Inverness and Daytime.

Favourite Downed in Cup. All the 12 horees carded went to the post in the Cambridge Trotting Cup. First Flight ended up favourite with £393, Cold Trcatitire, which wqu, being next in demand (£200), and the thud fancy, Peter Pirate ( £222), finish-'] a-= backed. All got away well, First Flight bein<' quickest to move, Richore then ran to the front from First Flight, Dan Direct, Nella Dillon and Master Hma. Before reaching the straight- the first time round, Dealer ran to the front and passing the stand the order was Dealer and Richore, together, First Flight, Wakefield, Nella Dillon and Gold Treasure. Out of the straight Wakefield went up into first place, Dealer dropping back Wakefield led alon<? the back from First Flight, Nella Dillon, Richore, Dealer, Gold Treasure and Dan Direct. Crossing the top, First Flight was in command from Gold Treasure, with Wakefield close up, and then IS elm Dillon. This was the order into the straight and in the run, home Gold Treasure finished best and won by three-quarters of a length from First Flight, with Peter Pirate two and a hall lengths awav third, with a damaged wheal. Nella Dillon was fourth, and then came Wakefield and Dan Direct. Another F —nnrito Beaten. Carrying £283, Poi, a Hawera-trained horse, was installed favourite for the Hautapu Handicap, of a mile and _ a quarter, the next best backed being Great Vafity (£169), and the winner, Jackie Thorpe, with £109. As the held moved off Great Vanity whipped round and took no further part in the race. Conder Bell went out in front quickly, but it was not long before Jackie Thorpe took charge and led out of the straight from Conder Bell, Cogent and Poi. As they entered the back stretch there .was a mix up in which Oliver Thorpe, Crystal,*Eleawah, Lady Linda and Tiny Rose cither fell or pulled up. Jackie Thorpe led along the back, well clear of Poi, Cogent and Conder Bell. The order was the fiamc across the top and into the straight, where Jackie Thorpe held his own to win easily by a length and a quarter from Poi, who was a length in front of Prince Lochinvar. Conder Bell was fourth and then came Margaret Wallace, Great Fame and Cogent. Carl Mack Gees Under. Ben Bingen was the only withdrawal from the Barclowie Handicap, for which Carl Mack (453) was made a better favourite than Fino (£278), the best supported of' the others being Parrish Belle ( £180). Carl Mack was the early leader, but passing the stand the first time broke, leaving Parrish Belle in front from Direct Action, Black Magic, and Finoro. Black Magic went to the front going out of the straight, leading Finoro, Gold Star and Parrish Belle. Carl Mack put in a good run, which took him up to the leaders, but he broke, and lost his position. Finoro wan in front turning for home, and went on to win nicely by half a length from Gold Star, with Black Magic three lengths and a half away third" Carl Mack was fourth, followed by Direct Action, Parrish Belle, Anseline and Wild "Nut.

Backmarker Wins. Mild Derby was the only scratching for the Stewards' Handicap, June Nordica being made a good favourite with £310, Prince Pedro ( £270) was second choice, and Lady Yvonne ( £243) being third fancy. At the start Rolfe Audubon failed to settle down and lost his handicap. Judy Thorpe was the early leader from Moko Chief, Zealous and June Nordica. Going out of the straight June Nordica went to the front and opened up a big lead from Judy Thorpe, with Nathaniel and Impromptu next. The field was well strung out along the back, June Nordica still holding the lead from Nathaniel .and Impromptu, with Judy Thorpe, Prince Pedro, and Moko Chief following. June Nordidk. led down into the straight, but in the inn to the post Impromptu wore her down and ■ won in a good finish by half a length. Lady Yvonne finished very fast to get up and make a dead heat for third place with Moko Chief, the pair being four lengths behind June Nordica. Prince Pedro was fourth, and then followed Judy Thorpe and Nathaniel. INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP, of 80sovs. One mile and a half.
