I , MR. JACKSON'S ADDRESS. PROGRAMME OF PROGRESS. (From Oar Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Friday. Opening his campaign for re-election as Mayor of Rot or ua, Mr. Thomas Jackson addressed a fair audience in the Lyric Theatre on Thursday evening. Setting forth his programme, he declared himself in favour of completing the bitumenising of the streets, the tarsealing of the main highways in the borough as funds permitted, allocating for the purpose heavy traffic fees and highways subsidies, and the provision of j a water-borne sewerage svstem for the ! Maori pas of Oliinemutu, Tarewa and ! Wliakarewarewa. provided adeqi-ato ! financial assistance could he obtained j from the Government. Mr. Oeorpe Urquhart (denuty-Mayor) presided and the candidate was sunported on the platform by Messrs. W. Galbraitli, O. H. Coleman and G. Johnson, members of the council. ABSENTEE VOTES. XO PROVISION MADE. In connection with the municipal elections, which are to be held on Wednesday next, the returning officer at Mount Albert (Mr. 17. Uttin;?) points out that the Local Elections and Polls Act makes no provision whatever for absentee votes. Mr. Ltting also explained that there were still many people under the impression that the inclusion of their names on the Parliamentary rolls entitled them to vote at the local elections.
