[ Homes Evacuated in Cessnock District. ! RAINFALL 6IN YESTERDAY. (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The intensity of the cyclonic disturbance decreased yesterday but heavy rain continues on the north coast, increasing the danger of floods. The Hunter River threatens to overrun its banks any minute. Many Cessnock families have evacuated their homes, the water being several inches deep. The dwellings of some settlers in the Maitland district are cut off by deep water, and the railway lines have been submerged. A constable at Cessnock waded chest high in the water and rescued a man suffering from pneumonia. Yesterday's rainfall in this district ranged to six inches.
