A VIRILE "CORPSE."

GUILTY PAIR THRASHED,

A woman who lives at Rydultau, in Polish Upper Silesia, and who, it is alleged, plotted to poison her husband, was taken to the hospital, as the result of a severe beating, after she had prematurely rejoiced over the supposed success of her diabolical attempt. She is stated to have sought to buy some arsenic from a local chemist, who, suspicious of her intentions, supplied her with a harmless powder and warned her husband. The husband accordingly watched her mix the "poison" in his food at their evening meal, and ate it without demur. Then he was apparently taken suddenly ill, and "expired" after a histrionic display of suffering. No sooner were his eye 3 closed than the widow (as the wife now deemed herself) summoned her lover, and both began to make merry over the success of their plot. But, when they decided to tie a rope round the neck of the "dead" man to simulate suicide, the "corpse" thought it time to intervene. He accordingly arose, and after mercilessly thrashing his terrified rival, whom he flung out of the house, set about his wife and dealt with her so effectively that she had to be removed to hospital.
