POLICE OFFICER DEAD.
SENIOR SERGEANT O'GRADY. The death occurred at the Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, at 8 o'clock this morning of Mr. J. J. O'Grady, senior sergeant of police. Mr. O'Grady, who was well-known and respected in Auckland, served for many years in Christchurch and other towns in the South Island. He was first transferred to Auckland to take charge of the Newton station, Auckland, but a few months later he was appointed to seniorat police headquarters, O'Rorko Street. In April of last year he was transferred to Christchurch. He had been seriously ill for two months. Mrs. O'Grady died several years ago at Christchurch. Their only chill*, Misa Millicent O'Grady, is a talented singer, and when in Auckland she sang on the concert platform and over the air from IYA. The late senior-sergeant was a most popular man both in and out of the police fore?, and distinguished himself as a capable and zealous officer. As prosecutor at the Auckland Police Court he gained a reputation for scrupulous fairness and ability.
