CHAPLIN DENIAL.
ROYALTY NOT KEPT WAITING. LONDON, April 19. Charlie Chaplin has cabled the '"'Daily News" from Nice categorically denying a statement in a London morning newspaper that British Royalty was slighted by his arriving over an hour late at the Monte Carlo premiere of "City Lights," at which the Duke of Connaught was the guest of honour. Chaplin states that the story is absolutely untrue. "I was scheduled to arrive at the theatre at 10.20 p.m., just before the presentation of 'City Lights,'" he says. 'T was the guest of the Prince of' Monaco, and while acknowledging the audience's applause I recognised" the Duke of Connaught, whom I immediately expressed a wish to me-i. "I excused myself to my host and at the conclusion of the performance hurried to the Duke, who chatted with in the moet friendly fashion."
