MOTOR CYCLE NUISANCE.

MORE USE OF LAW NEEDED. (To the Editor.) The City Council lias niaclc a new by-law to "make cycling safe." Safe for whom? Surely it i«3 not primarily for the protection of those abominations, the machine-gun-like cycles of motor cyclists. .My apologie° to the one per cent who are gentlemen motor evclists. If, 011 the other hand, this new by-iaw is for the protection of the long-suffering public—' ' both the pedestrians and motor-carists the whole effort is a screaming farce. There have existed for many moons perfectly good unassailable by-laws dealing with the regulating of these atrocities, but "full many a by-" 1 law is made to blush unused," and this is one of them. What is wanted is not a new by-law but some infinitesimal, trifling use—sav, oneti prosecution a year—of the existing by-laws-? that provide (a) control of speed, and (b) mutliing of exhausts; thi*> prosecution just to let the sane portion of the public remember that there are traffic ''cops" in the city. Our' "" T ' - councillors probably do not know that motor ' cyclists are not allowed in the city of London, and in a certain Yorkshire town a sensible ? "cop" carries a two-foot rule, bails up any „-,^ v i ■ noisy cyclist, puts the rule up the exhaust '; jC pipe, and if there is 110 silencer trots him to the police station; then the offender is fined"#s£•'• £3 for a first offence. Cannot we use the-;-existing by-laws? LEX..>" ' •
