TAKAPUNA BUS FARES.
COTJNCII/ SEEKS REDUCTION. TRAXSPORT COMPANY'S REPLY. Recently tlie Takapana Borough Council su22ested to the North Shore Transport Co.. Ltd.. that bu<= fares in the boronsrh should be reduced. Replying to the council last evening, the eomnany challenged the council's contention that costs had been reduced. It stated that the price of materials used had increased by 5 per cent, due to the alteration in exchange rates; Customs charges had increased by 15 per cent, and the cost* of tyres had risen 7| per cent. Wages had not yet been reduced. and it was not, therefore, in a position to consider a reduction in faree. Air. -J. Guiniven contended that the cost of apprentices' tickets, particularly, could be brought down. The company's letter was referred to the new council for consideration.
