CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING
AUCKLAND GUN CLUB. There was a small attendance at the Auckland Gun Club's grounds at l'akuranga, when a series of matches was shot off. The first five bird match was won outright by E. J. Scbofielcl l-l!3yds), with the possible. I. Lomas (22,vds) and J. Milne (22yds), tied for second place with four each. > The chief match, for Mr. D. Cairns' trophy, resulted in a popular win for the club's president, C. H. Prysdale (21yds). with 9 out of 10. •J. Milne (22yds) and I. Lomas (21yds) again tied for second with eight each. The filial ten-bird match resulted in a tie between A. E. Macredie (24yds) and E. J. Schofield (23yds) with nine each. They shot off and eventually divided on the twelfth round. J. Milne and I. Loinas once more tied, this time for third place, with eight. TE AROHA GUN CLUB. The club held a series of. matches at Herriesville on Wednesday afternoon, the contests being keen throughout. The principal event was the trophy shoot for a trophy presented by Mr. Hoffman, of Auckland. Following are the results: — First Shoot (7 birds).—A. McCabe (12yds), R. H. Galloway -(11yds), F. Harvey (15yds) and L. Slack (15yds) tied with the possible. In the shoot-off for th.' trophy first prize went to A. McCabe, with L. Slack second. W. Hamilton 3 biid>. \V. Horn 5, W. Tilsley 4, W. Readhead 6 and G. Wagstaff 3, also competed. Trophy Shoot (12 birds). —AV. Horn (15yds), W. Readhead (12yds), L. Slack 15yds, G. Wagstaff 12yds, and A. McCabe 12yds, tied with the possible. In the shoot-off Horn won from Readhead on the eighteenth bird. The other competitors were: S. Danes 11 birds, W. Tilsley 11, R. H. Galloway 11, F. Harvey 10, G. Hayes 1. H. Johnson and V. Hamilton. The set of cutlery was presented to the president, Mr. Horn, by Mr. Stan Davies. amidst cheers. Gimcrack Stakes (7 birds). —S. Goldsbury. W. Tilsley, R. H. Galloway, V. Hamilton and S. Davies tied with the possible. They fired off and Davies won on the 20yds mark from Tilsley. Horn (> birds, Readhead 5, Harvey 6, Slack 5, Hayes 5, Wagstaff 5, Johnson 6 and McCabe -4 also competed.
Sweepstake (7 birds). —W. Tilsle.r, 7 birds, 1 ; L. Slack. H. Johnson, S. Davies, J. SI. Cochrane, 6 birds, tied for second place. W. Horn 4 and V. Hamilton 5 also competed.
