SECRETARY IN WELLINGTON". TRIBUTES OX RETIREMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Tributes to the work of Mr. G. L. Stewart, who is retiring from the position of secretary to the Wellington Education Board, a position he has held for 27 years, were paid at a meeting of the board to-day. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart were entertained at morning tea by the board, arid both received presentations. The chairman, Mr. Forsyth, said that among other virtues Mr. Stewart's business acumen had saved the board, the Department and the country many thousands of pounds in negotiating the purchase of school properties. Mr. A. C. Blake expressed the teachers' appreciation of "Mr. Stewart, whose tact 1 had been helpful in settling matters between teachers and the board.
In his reply Mr. Stewart commented on the enormous growth of the school system in the Wellington district since he became secretary of the board.
