LAKESIDE HOUSE BURNED.
OCCUPANTS' HURRIED EXIT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) HUNTLY, Saturday. Fire destroyed an eight-roomed house on the shores of Lake Hakanoa, owned by Mrs. M. Paterson and occupied by her son, Mr. James Paterson, and hi? wife and child. The cause of the outbreak, which occurred at 1.30 a.m., is not known. Mrs. J. Paterson was awakened by falling timbers and on rousing her husband, discovered the whole house ablaze. Hastily donning cldthing and wrapped in blankets, they made a rapid exit, picking up the cups won by Mr. Paterson'e racehorse Hakanoa as they left the burning building. Included in the contents lost was a handbag belonging to Mrs. Paterson containing over £30 in cash. Mr. J. Paterson's effects were insured hi" tho Norwich Union Office for £340, and he is a heavy loser. The building was covered in the New Zealand Office for £400.
