LOCAL BODIES.
OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Main Highways.—A letter was received from the Main Highways Board intimating that in the past local authorities had been in the way of exceeding the amount of estimates on works, and carrying out works in excess of the approved proposals. In the special circumstances the board had hitherto met these claims, but in future, due to the altered financial circumstances, it would be compelled to refuse to meet, the expenditure. The letter was received. / Sturges Park.—The council decided to give all assistance possible to the carnival committee, which proposed to organise an athletic carnival! in aid of park improvements. Rating Act.—The Morrinsville Borough Council requested the council to make representations for the amendment of Section 50 of the Rating Act, 1925, in view of the importance of this section to local bodies. It was agreed to take action in the matter. Sinking Funds. —It was decided to take no action in regard to a suggestion from the Municipal Association that all local bodies consider investing their accumulated sinking funds in the purchase of debentures of other local authorities. Fire Brigade.—The Mount Wellington Road Board wrote asking if the service* of the fire brigade could be given to cover the board's district. It suggested that terms be discussed, and that pending a definite arrangement the council grant the service of the brigade at the ordinary terms. It was agreed to cover the district meantime, and to arrange terms if possible. Library.—lt was decided to grant the public library the usual annual subsidy of £15. Complimentary reference was made to the library committee in regard to the work of the past year. Playing Fields. —A recommendation was received from the parks committee that the Rugby and League code clubs be given the use of the playing grounds in Sturges Park and Princes Street, each club to have two Saturdays to one on each of the grounds. The report was adopted. Livestock By-law.—A resolution was--passed adopting a new by-law iu regard to the parking of vehicles carrying livestock in the Great South Road between Huia and Fairburn Roads at the north and south ends of the borough. The adoption of this by-law is the • result of complaints of the nuisance caused by stock vehicles parking in the shopping area of the town-
