AMERICAN WHEAT.
Alarming Decline in Export
Trade.
FARMERS CONCERNED.
WASHINGTON, April 6.
The Department of Agriculture states that the gravity of the situation confronting American farmers in endeavouring to dispose of their products abroad is emphasised by the fact that the export of the principal agricultural products of the country declined to the extent of £81,639i,000 in the first two-thirds of the current fiscal year.
The dominant features of the export trade were drastic reductions in the exports of wheat and flour. The report says wheat and grain exports in February "totalled only 137,000 bushels —the lowest for any month since June, 1905.
In the eight months ended February 28, 1931, only 56,807,000 bushels of wheat were exported of a value of £10,312,400, compared with 73,212,000 bushels valued at £18,796,600 for the equivalent period of the previous fiscal year.
