GRABBED BY THROAT?

OLD MAN IN CHRISTCHURCH. THREE ON BURGLARY CHARGE. (By Telegraph.— rress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Robert William Leeming, a labourer, aged 29, Ivan Ashlev Smith, a painter, aged 28, and Harold* Herbert Smith, of Kaikoura, a mechanic, were charged in the Magistrate's Court with that on or about March 10 they broke and entered by night the dwelling of Henry Harris, of Kilmore Street, and committed theft. The police stated that an old man named Harris had been struck down and seriously injured in his shop. A revolver, two batons, rubber gloves and two electric torches were produced as exhibits. Harris stated in evidence that he was grabbed by the throat, gagged with a towel and struck on the head. Charles Leeming and Ivan Smith, who were jointly charged, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering. They were committed for sentence. The case against Harold Smith, charged separately with breaking ard entering, is proceeding.
