LONG CRIMINAL LIST.

TAKAPUNA BURGLARY

A cook who had turned burglar, and stolen jewellery and silverware valued at over £49 from a Takapuna house, was sentenced by Mr. Justice Herdman in the Supreme' Court to-day to three years' imprisonment with hard labour. The accused was Stanley Arthur Hayden, aged 39. Three weeks before his offence, Hayden had come out of gaol, said Mr. King, who appeared on his behalf. He had little or no. money, and had gone to see the people at the house where the goods were stolen. When he found no One there he took the goods, which were later found in his possession. He intended to return them.

His Honor said the prisoner was guilty of committing a crime which was popular at the present time—breaking and entering. For many years he had been in and out of gaol. After offences in New South Wales and Victoria he had turned his attention to New Zealand.
