POINT DUTY.
POSITION AT NEWMARKET The question of point duty in Newmarket was considered by the Borough Council last evening, when a report was received from the traffic inspector stating that point duty could be dispensed with between eight and nine o'clock. On one or two occasions, the inspector stated, traffic at the intersection of Broadway and Remuera Road had been allowed to proceed uncontrolled, without any inconvenience to tram cars or motor cars. It was essential, however, that point duty should be continued between 4.30 and 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays about midday, when traffic was congested. The matter was referred to the general purposes committee.
