ANNIVERSARY REGATTA.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.

TRIBUTE TO THE NAVY. The interest taken in the Auckland Anniversary Regatta was shown by the large attendance at the Navy League rooms last evening, when the prizes .were presented by His Worship the Mayor, Mr. Geo. Baildon. At a meeting of the committee, held prior ito the presentation, the hon. treasurer, Mr. A. M. Gilmour, reported that receipts wers sufficient to pay all prizes and would leave a small credit balance.

The chairman, Mr. A. Braund, before calling on Mr. Baildon, said that it was pleasing to find the support extended to the committee by the business men of tho city and the good entries in all classes. Visitors had passed many complimentary remarks on the fine display of yachts and motor boats, and he wished to thank all who had contributed to the success of the day. Another matter, said Mr. Braund, which called for special mention, wa6 tho great assistance and support given to the regatta by Commodore Blake, his officers and men of the Navy. Commodore Blake sailed one of the whalers and the enthusiasm shown by the 22 crews in the rowing race had not been equalled for years. Possibly the committee had been a bit selfish, Mr. Braund continued, considering the convenience of boati ing men in the location of the flagship before the claims of the public. Next year he hoped that the flagship would be moored off Orakei, where the events would be in full view from the waterfront road. Mr. Baildon, who was received with applause, said it was a pleasant duty to present the winners with their tokens of victory. Yachting was still flourishing in spite of the times. He had witnessed the racing, and tlie starts especially were very keen, and made a grand eight. Thanks to the energetic committee, everything had gone off well and he understood that there were no protests. Mr. Baildon presented the prizes, the principal winners being: Ariki, R. B. and S. S.
