BANKS' RESERVE CAPITAL.
In connection with a paragraph which appeared in these columns yesterday, in regard to the reserves of banks, and which was taken from the "Sydney Bulletin," an error appears to have crept in where the amount of bullion possessed by the Bank of New South Wales at last quarter is set down as £261,806. It should be explained that amongst assets at the end of September, 1930, totalling £89 228,378, one itr.m in th : » bank's bnlanes-sheet, comprising '•'coin, bullion, Government legal tender notes, and cash at bankers," js stated at £11,484,190. As Commonwealth notes in hand at that date totalled £2,683,941, it would appear that coin and bullion on hand approximated to £8,800,000.
