BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED.

LORD AND LADY BADEN-POWELL,

Lord and Lady Baden-Powell celebrated their birthdays, yesterday when they visited "Otimai," tiie New Zealand Girl Guides' home in the Waitakere Ranges. One hundred and fifty girls, Wearing fern leaves, formed a guard of honour and greeted their chiefs with cries of "H'aeremai:" A surprise birthday box presented to the visitors' consisted of a book of photographs of the home, some punga vases, and a gramophone record of the Maori welcome and the Peace Hymn. Tea was served on the lawn, and the guests cut a large birthday cake. After addressing a few words to the girls. Lady Baden-Powell presented Miss A. M. Burgin, head of training, with the Medal of Merit in recognition of her services to the movement in New Zealand.
