SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The usual weekly meeting of the Mothers' Club at the Y.W.C.A. was hekl last Tuesday, when Mrs, Mann presided. The speaker for the afternoon was Miss Batt, the New Zealand delegate to the recent Y.W.C.A. Conference in Geneva. Her talk was enjoyed by all. A vote of sympathy was passed with those who had suffered loss in the recent earthquake. • * * * At the monthly meeting of the Glen Eden Women's Institute on Monday evening there was a fair , attendance present. Mrs. Claridge gave a demonstration of rug making, and a roll call caused Bome amusement. Miss Thompson was appointed .temporary secretary in place of Mrs. Laurie, who has left the district. Mesdames Strong and iiardhnan served a dainty supper. ♦ * * # The Onehunga Croquet Club held a successful afternoon on Thursday, in order to raise funds for a new lawn. A progressive croquet competition and card tournament was organised by the committee. The pavilion was arranged in summer flowers, and the club's colours were tastefully draped round the walls. The.prize-winners of the croquet were: — Mies Waldron (senior grade), and Mrs. George (junior grade). The card prizes were won by Mesdames Cardale, Cowell, Clark, Donald, and Miss Hickman. The president, Mrs. A. Kenny, received the guests in a navy blue floral georgette and blue Bangkok hat. Mrs. Crawford, the secretary, wore a lilac crepe de chine and hat to tone. '*.*- *, * i . At the invitation of the Onehunga Hospital Auxiliary, Mrs. Eaeburn and Mr. A. Hamblin gave a concert at the infirmary on Wednesday. _ A most delightful programme was given by a party of young people, which was greatly enjoyed by thel inmates, this being the first concert given this year. All the items given were by the young people in costume, which added to the enjoyment. Those taking part weie. Misses Koanui Simeon, Pat Boyle, Kathleen Boyle, Joyce Cain,_ Gladys Cam, Wilma Lockwood, Joy Simo'n. Mrs. Boyle was , the, accompanist. At the. close of the concert a special vote of thanks was passed.to all the friends who assisted in,' making the concert a success, also'to Mr. Jerome , and Mr. G. Bridge for providing transport. • ' • *j .• A' most delightful At Home was given by the Tauranga Tennis Club on Wednesday afternoon in aid of the Hawkes Bav ichef, fund. A delicious afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Bullard, Miss Humphreys and members of Several tournaments and competitions were played, the winners being Messrs. "Simmonds, Butts, Hay and Carr.
