BUTTER PRICES ADVANCING.

NOW UP TO 124/. CHEESE ALSO IMPROVES. Latest cables from London confirm the firmness that has been apparent in the butter market, and finest is now up to 124/ per cwt. Cheese, too, which has been selling at abnormally low prices for some time, also shows an improvement. To-day's weekly cable from London reads as follows: — Butter. —A strong demand at an advance. Good quantities going to Continent and the Irish Free State, the demand from which is expected to continue for three weeks. ' Danish, 156/ per cwt; choicest salted New Zealand, 122/ to 124/; Australian, 118/ to 120/; exceptional, 122/; unsalted, 2/ to 4/ premium. Cheese. —A better demand. New . Zealand white and coloured, 54/ to 55/ per cwt. Australian temporarily cleared. Winning its Way North. The Empire Marketing Board reports that, as a result of special efforts, there has been a marked increase in the demand for Empire butter in the northern towns, where the number of shops stocking it is the greatest on record. MERCHANTS' REPORTS. Messrs. Josenh Nathan and Co. have received the following cable from their London principals, Messrs. Nathan and Trengiouse. dated London, February 12:— Butter: 122/ to 124/ per cwt. Cheese: New Zealand, white, 56/' per ewt; coloured; 57/. Botli markets closed firm. Messrs. Norden and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London principals; Messrs. R. and W.' Davidson, Limited, London and Glasgow, under date 12th inst.:—Butter: 120/ to 122'. up to 124/. Market firm. Cheese: White, 55/ to 56/; coloured, 56/ to 57/. Both likely to be dearer.
