RUGBY FOOTBAIL.
LOSS OF PROMISING PLAYER. (By Telegraph.-nSpecial to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. One of tlie three yachtsmen niissing in the yacht Windward, for which all hope is now practically abandoned since the Matfii's- return, is a loss to New Zealand Rugby football. He is A. Irwin, a Wanginpi represenr tative who has played at second fiver eighth for Victoria University College during the past three seasons, and been largely instrumental in gaining for them two successive victories in the senior championship in Wellington. Irwin has not been very big, but has always shown himself .fast and plucky, and only the fa,ct that Wellington has held three inside backs of outstanding performance, Nicholls, Lanoe Johnson and Page (who figured in the trials for Scotland during a visit to the Homeland) has kept Irwin out of the team. He was still young and full of possibilities.
