ONLOOKER'S VIEWPOINT.

PLUXKET SHIELD.

A correspondent, "Enthusiast;" writes : "Your contributor, reviewing this season's Phinket Shield cricket matches, brings to notice the fact that Wellington does not seem to be encouraging her younger players. The reason for this'is; I think, that. there are too many country players in their team, aiid'the younger men in the city are not setting the opportunities which they should. I suggest that another Shield province be formed, the players tp be chosen from the following districts: Waikato, Taranaki, Wanganui, Kangktikei, Manawatu, Wairarapa, and Hawkc's Bay. Under the captaincy of Lowry I ani sure a strong team could be iV'rmed. It would mean four Ui'ore matches, and consequently • more < big cricket, of which there is far .too little played in New.Zealand. It may be considered that Auckland would have rather an advantage over the other country teanjs, as no country players are included in their present side, but I think it would be, better for New Zealand cricket, as a whole*"
