FRENCH SENSATION

Minister Contradicted by

Under-Secretary.

CRISIS ANTICIPATED

PARIS. January IS,

A sensation which is expected to lead to a crisis occurred in the Chamber of Deputies when M. Boret, Minister of Agriculture, announced his decision to increase the tariff on imported wheat, sending up the price from 14/ to 14/7 a cwt.

M Merer, Under-Secretary for Commerce, contradicted M. Boret's announcement,' which he said had not received the Cabinet's approval.

It iri feared that this will lead to wild speculation in wheat.

The growing unemployment in France is emphasised in the Ministry of Labour's figures. These show that 17,449 people are in receipt of relief, as against 13,149 in the previous week and 1100 a year ago.
