NORTH SHORE CLUB. The North Hhore Rowing Club's boathuufc. Kin? Edward Paradr. preseutcO a bright scene on Saturday, on the occasion of the official opening of the titty-eighth season. The club's supporters a;'sonil>led in good force in response to the oiUeers' invitation, and an enjoyable afternoon was sppn r. Tho president (Mr. \V. D. Mcl.eau), in welcoming the visitors, save an interesting account of the club's record last season, nnd trusted, with the good start made this season, that an even better record would be achieved. The president c.ilHxl upon the. Mayor (Mr. J. Hislop), who, in a breezy speech, thanked (be supporters of the club, a-jd save a bri.sht account of his own rowing days with the Rowing Club. The visitors were'keenly interested in the many records on the club's walls, and many bright incidents were recalled of old shore crews. The ladies' committee, under Mrs. Butland, dispensed afternoon tea. A set of trial tours were rowed for trophies donated by the president. Mr. \V. D. McLean. The following five crews competed :—1< 1 . Norrip. S. Gardiner, \V. iVaisli, \V. Kalaugher: W. Seagar, M. Sherley, 1). Walsh. Jenks: W. Dean, H. Oliver, 1 , . Muskett, Wofdhousc; B. McCalluni. A. Windsor, C. Willetts, C. Knott; L. Oariyle. D. Townsend, C. Eagles, J. Dakers. Results :— First Heat.—Seagar and Norris met in the first heat. Both crews sot away to a good start. Norris then challenged ■ and went on to win by two lengths. The water was very rough, both crews nearly swamping. Second Heat. —The crews of Dean and Carlyle met in the second heat. Carlyle got away from a good start, which he maintained all the way, Dean swamping before reaching the line. The remaining races wiJl be rowed this evening.

ST. GEORGE'S CLUB.

Tlie St. < George's Rowing Club held the annual set of trial fours on Saturday for the Coates 1 Cup and Caps, much prized trophies of the club. The course from Orakei proved a hard try out. Four crews competed. _ _. , J R. H. Bias, P. Williams, S. Hislop, J. Ball: C. D'Authreau, G. H. Biss, S. M. Noble, R. Lett; J. C. Horton, J. Coote, W. Carr, B. Atkins; C. T. KeUeway, W. Woolhouse. E. Fort, R. Reid. ~.-.'. Biss and D'Authreau met in the first heat and D'Authreau jumping the lead early won all the way by two lengths, in the second heat Horton and Kelleway met. Horton soon established the lead and won by two lengths. C D'Authreau's and J. C. Horton's crews met' in the final. D'Authreau .was quickest away and soon opened a good lead About half way over the course his No. 2 had an accident and Horton rowed on to win.

WAITEMATA CLUB

The Wnitemata Keating Club had the splendid entry cf eoven crews in the jet of trial fours rowed on Saturday foi trophies donated by Mr. T. luipey. The course was from Orakei to the eastern .tide deflector, and a aeries of km rnces were witnessed. A heavy wind off Hobson V.ay steadied the crews wraewhat, but the conditions were splendid on the stretch from Point Resolution to the finishing line. The first heat drew the crews of u Brooker, C. Thompson iino R. 6. Barker From a pood start Thompson jumped tu* lead and maintained the advantage throughout to win by oue length and a half from Barker, who beat Brooker by v Ca Th* S " crews of A. M, Maekay and T-. Smith met in the second heat. This was a ding-dong go Throughout the journey. Smith forging ahead in thsJ final ttages to win by a bare canv.is. The crews of C. O. Koaron and TV. A. Stevenson tried "-onehitiioliS in the third heat. Half the journoy was good going: then Stevenson stea-lily wont ahead and won by just over two lengths. The final drew the crews of C. T. Thompson. R. Smith and W. A. Stevenson, and It proved the race of the day. Starter .T. K. Hunn got the crews away in great style, and Thompson, rattling in a few fast strokes, shot ahead, with Stevenson second. As the crews settled down Stevenson crept steadily into the .'ead, while Smith dropped over a length astern third. At the threequarter distance Stevenson was a length ahead, and Smith ran into second piaee. The leaders opened out into a good swinging stroke, while f-mith fought for the lead. Clearing Resolution Stevenson called on his crew, and they jumped an undisputed lead to win by one length and a half. A great go ensued between Smith and Thompson for second place. Smith's ei'ew ( getting the verdict by a bare canvas. The -winning crew was:—W. A. Stevenson, L. Patterson. M. V. Pisrce, J. O'HanloD.

WEST END CLUB,

Pair oar races were held by the West End Club for trophies presented by Mr. A. Blakey, ex-club captain. Eight crews entered, and some good racing was witnessed. The short course from the mills to the ohed was used. Results:— First Heat. —R. Witten and M. Taylor (7k) defeated M. Con way and N. Jerrome (Ok) by a bare half length. A good race nil the way. Witten putting in a good finishing sprint to get a close verdict. Second heat.—D. Stotter and N. Ganley (13s) defeated A. Clarke and R. Stitt by a length and a half. Stotter and Ganley together, went on to win easily. Third Heat. —F. Baker and A. Dalton (Ss) defeated G. Conway and K. Stewart by a length and a half, after a good race. The leeway proved too much for the handicap men. Fourth Heat.—R. Staig and R.' Parsons (10s), defeated H. Newcombe and B. Such (us), easily by three lengths. This was an easy win. the handicap being too much for the handicap men. First Semi-final. —R. Witten and M. Taylor defeated D. Stotter and N. Ganley by two lengths. This would have been a good race but for Ganley having stretcher trouble at about half the distance. Second Semi-final.—R. Staig and R. Parsons defeated F. Baker and R. Dalton by a short canvas, after a great race. Parker and Dalton put in a great finish but just failed to (ret there. Final.—R. Witten and M. Taylor defeated R. Staig and R. Parsons by 3ft after a rery exciting finish. Witten put in a great finish. O. Felton acted as starter and J. Haylock judged the racing.

AUCKLAND CLUB

The Auckland Rowiner Club hnd the following: four crews out in. a set of subscription trial fours on Saturday:—S. Scott, C. Chamberlain. D. Vowles. D. Plummer: P. Hewlett. A. Bridle, W. Punk, V. Cnrheft: K. Korn, R. Porter. A. Gilligau, E. MoComhie: .T. M"Comish, K. Cbappell. F. Foote, F. Hcald. The long course from Orakei was rowed and three races were closely contested. Starting was by mutual consent and Mr. R. Mahn was judge. The crows of Scott and- Hewlett met in the first hent. Tt was a ding-dong go to the Resolution, where Hewlett took a lead. Scott challenged and in a great run forged ahead to win hy a short canvas.
