.The summer meeting of the Wellington Racing Club will open at Trcntham to-morrow, and excellent fields arc en* ptged throughout; in fact the best horses in the Dominion are drawn together, and (here should bo some great racing. The prospects are for fine weather and a firm; trade;

The Opening Event

Tho meeting will open, with the TrentJiam High-weight Handicap, for wliich fourteen are carded. Avro has performed well recently, and. won the Highweight Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at the Manawatu meeting, beating Tunbridge, -who is also engaged. The latter was successful in a similar event at Hawkers Bay. Aberfeldy shoAved good form on the West Coast during the holidays, and Riccarton reports give him. a chance in these races at the meeting. Trishna won the Tiri High-weight, nine furlongs, at Takapuna, which is his best effort since coining over from Australia. ■I'm Alone was third in the Terrace Handicap, seven furlongs, at tho last Manawatu fixture, but failed at Foxton, while Arrowzone was second in the second division of the Robinson Handicap, seven furlongs, at Ellerslie. Croiina Town won tho High-weight Handicap, eight furlongs and a half, at Stri.tford;.'and previously lie was placed on three occasions this season in events Tip to a mile and n distance. Rosshire was second in the Waitemata Handicap, one mile, and a qnarter, at Ellorslie, and is reported to bo well .ibrward. Callamart has performed well recently both on the flat and over hurdles. Karapoti, owing to not hejng quite himself, Avill not make tho trip. Merry Cry, the brother, to Hunting Cry, won the Trial Hack, six furlongs, at Napier Park, and was second in the October Handicap, six furlonga, at tho Wellington spring meeting. •Souchong lias performed fairly this season, but the latter pair do not appeal. Isa has two seconds in five-furlong races to her credit this season, while Awaken "won tho Nainai Handicap, six furlongs, at the Wellington spring meeting, beating among others, Autopay, Love Song and Arrow Lad. Gesture has failed to reproduce her true form this t-auson, two " thirds —New Zealand Oaks and .Feilding . Stakes—being tho 'best she could do. Amnion Ra "won tho Great Northern Foal Stakes and the Royal Stakes at Ellerslie well, and he will have plenty of support. With Karapoti out of the way he reads well. Hunt the Slipper has also good credentials Ibis season, "winning the Byron Moore Stakes, five furlongs, at Flemington, the Nursery Handicap, five furlongs, at Ellerslie, and the Nursery Handicap; five furlongs, at Foxton. He is a good sort. La Pou'pee has not been out of the money since she started racing, winning the Welcome Stakes, five furlongs, at Ellerslie, and the Wellcsley Stakes, furlongs, at Trentham, while she "was narrowly beaten in the Welcome Stakes at Riccarton, and the Great Northern Foal Stakes and Royal Stakes at EHerslie. She has been most consistent. Golden Wings has also performed tvclj, only once being out of a place in his seven starts, while he won both juvenile events at the Wairarapa meeting in his last two effort?. Minerval is reported to have been going well at Riccarton. He won over seven furlongs at Greymouth and finished second in the Greymouth Cup, in his last two etarts. Master Anomaly won three eix-furlong races at the Dunedin spring meeting, and was successful at the recent Waikanaiti fixture. Mythology may be the best of the others. The Fitzherbert Handicap.

The Fitzherbert Handicap is an event for two-year-olds. Hampdon won tno Orona Nursery Handicap, Hve furlongs, at Feilding, beating a good iield, while ho was third in the* Juvenile Handicap at Woodvillc and won the Nursery Handicap at Manawatu. Solvent won two events in her first two starts at the Canterbury Jockey Club's spring meeting, but failed at Auckland, though she was not quite right on the latter occasion. She has since been galloping brilliantly at Riccarton. Chief Cook was third in the Irwell Handicap at Kiccarton and won the. Spring Nursery at the same fixture, and was placed in both juvenile events at Woodvillc Royal Artist has not much to commend him recently. Dulen showed good form in the South at the Dunedin and Southland meetings winning at the last fixture. High Comedy has yet to finish in .the money. The same remark applies to Psychologist Furlong was second in the Oroua Nursery Handicap at .Fielding. SOLVENT FEDORA DULEN. The Big Event. The Wellington Cup is the chief event of the day and it has drawn an excellent field. Nightmarch should go better than he did in the Auckland Cup with a similar impost. Historic and Concentrate are eaid to be doubtful starters, but if they were at.their best they would have to be seriously considered. Star Stranger'has had plenty of racing, but his form has not been good this season. Gay Crest, after passing tile post first in the' Auckland, Cup and eventually winning the A.R.C. Handicap, will be one of the favourite division. In the Shade disappointed at Ellerslie but may do better to-morrow. First Acre won over a mile and three-quarters at Flemington arid showed he was in form by running second in the Foxton Cup last. week. Cylinder is stated to have been suffering from a jarred joint, but ho pulled up all right on Saturday, and if he' is started he should take a lot of beating. Merry Damon was just beaten by a head by Historic in the Manawatu Cup and is stated to bo. very'v-wdll. Goshawk was second in the Christmas Handicap at Ellerslie, while Vcrtigcrn and Count Palatine, did not impress at the same fixture. Habit has raced consistently this■• season, winning the Clandeboyue Handicap, one mile and 110 yards, at Manawatu and the Turakina Handicap, seven furlongs, at Marlon', while she has been placed on another four occaeions. Full Feather has not much,to commend him this eea-son, but Black Duke has been racing well on the West Coast. Love Song- accounted for tho Goodwood Handicap, one mile, at Ellerslie iii her Last effort. She is very speedy. Caterpillar is a useful sort, while Desert Song has performed well this season, winning over nine furlongs at Manawatu, while she was fourth in tho 'Marton Cup and second in tho Aidworth Stakes, nine furlongs, at Marton during the holiday meeting. Mount Boa has also raced well in the south, while Cadland showed good form at the Manawatu meeting, winning a six-furlong event and being placed on another- occasion. LOVE SONG, HABIT, DESERT SONG. The Big Sprint. The Telegraph Handicap 'forms the other "leg" of the double. Hunting. Cry won the Eailway Handicap nicely .at Auckland, while Consent annexed the Fitzherbert Handicap, the chief six furlongs race on the opening day at Manawatu. Meadow Lark showed a return to form by winning at Dunedin with much more weight than he is called upon to carry to-morrow. He has won this event for the last two years. Arrow Lad has raced consistently this season,'but Hunting Day did not impress at Ellerslic. Bayacre annexed the sprint race at Levin, the Queen's Plate at Auckland, and was narrowly defeated in the Newmarket Handicap, six furlongs, at Ellerslie in record time for the course. Since then he put up a good performance over six furlongs at Foxton, giving the lield a start and carrying top weight to victory.
