INCREASE IN SURCHARGE.

DUE TO HIGHER EXCHANGE,

PASSAGE MONEY AFFECTED

In consequence of the latest increase in exchange rates in New Zealand on London, as announced by the banks, the surcharge on freight prepaid in New Zealand on general cargo has been increased from 5 to 7A per cent, and a similar increase will be made on passage moneys paid in New, Zealand. The surcharge docs not apply to freight on refrigerated cargo, the rates for which are fixed by existing .'-contracts. The surcharge of 7 A per cent operates immediately,- and is made subject to fluctuations in the rate of exchange.
