PUBLIC WORKS'-MONEY ORDERS.
not guilty to seven charges of 'forging Public Works money .orders of/the total value of £38 9/6, during th.6 months ■of April, July, August, September and October of last yea-r, Edward John Sinton and Maud Smiley, were committed to the Supreme Court fo| trial, by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., at' the Police CoiU't this morning.
:.jyir. W. F. Schramm appeared for the coyple. . , was given that Sinton , obtained employment under the Public Works Department, and,' representing that he was a married man, authorised tho Department to pay half his earnings to the woman, Smiley. ■Jn a statement produced by Detective Sneddon, Sintin said he was a single man. If he had signed as a single man id-would not have got employment. He had boarded with Mrs. Smiley for some time before her husband's death. They intended to get married, he said.
