MOTOR CAR STORY COMPETITION.

SOME VERY GOOD WdRK RECEIVED

PICTURE PUZZLE ARRANGED FOR NEXT WEEK.

Dear Boys and Girls, — Entries were heavy for the motor car story competition which wa* conducted in the Budget a fortnight ago. On the whole the standard of work was quite high, although there was not a great deal of variety between the many contributions. . , .. . . In almost every case the story told of a wedding and a journey afterwards. Most of the competitors managed to work the names of a good many motor cars into their tales, but some made a much neater job of it than did others. Many boys and girls used their ingenuity in order to make the motor car names read into the story, and in this way much humour was shown. For instance the winner of the fifth prize wrote to the effect that the bride was the "Dort-er" of Count De Soto. The first prize was awarded to Sybil Donehue, whose entry was very readable and did not consist merely of strings of motor car names. The second prize went to Edward Chandler, a country reader, living at Tapu. Lois Stanton, Vera Stevenson and Stanley Braithwaite were the winners of the other three cash prizes. Elsewhere on this page appears a drawing which seems to be crammed with various objects. As one looks at it one sees very many things, such as motbr cars, monkeys and mirrors, and very soon realises that almost everything in the sketch begins with the letter M. Competi-. tors to-day are to see how many things beginning with "M" they can find in the picture. All the objects must be written in lists in-strict alphabetical order, and the total number of objects found must be written clearly in the top right-hand corner of &F\ ' ' .^A the first sheet of paper used. Further jfft particulars are given in the announce- (LJ/ / J^2p^^^^ ment which appears elsewhere on this C^rf :
