GAME AT CHRISTCHURCH.

CANTERBURY'S SECOND

INNINGS

PAGE GETS RUNS.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Plu'nket Shield game between Wellington and Canterbury was resumed in 1 - fine weather this morning. Canterbury, who are 137 behind on the first innings, continued their second venture. Canterbury's second innings, which had produced 230 for five wickets, was carried on by Page (21) and Cromb (!). J. Newman opened the attack from the north end. The batsmen were enterprising, Cromb turning the first ball to leg for three, and Page scoring, with a single through the slips. Blundell, who sprained a wrist yesterday, was not on the field, his place being taken by Galliclian. Cromb relieved a slo\V spell by turning Crook to the fine leg boundary, reaching double figures. The bowling was steady, and the batsmen had to Avatoli the ball carefully and wait for scoring chances. Page got a strong four to the long-on boundary off Massey, and reached 30, and a little later 270 Went up. The batsmen were settling down, and Lowry tried McLeod in Massey s place. Page snicked a pair to leg and then pulled a short one to the fence, while Cromb reached 20 with a fine square cut for four off Crook. Page then survived an appeal for leg before. Cromb and Page were going, along quiotly, Cromb reaching 30 with a, fine off drive to the fence. Three maidens wer6 bowled in succession, Page breaking'the run with a single to tlurd man off Massey. The third century was posted when Cromb - off-drove Newman for three. It had taken 230 minutes. A Doubtful Decision. r The partnership was broken immediately afterwards, Cromb being caught in the slips by Massey off Newman when it appeared that the ball had hit the ground first. The umpire took some time to arrive at a decision. 301—0—35. Tire partnership had added 66. Lester 'joined his captain. Page next had a narrow escape, hitting at Crook and lifting the ball very near the slips, but getting a boundary. - Lester "broke his duck" with the first ball he received. When Page reached his half-century he went to belt a #io-ball from McLeod and was bowled! The crowd did not hear the call, and A\ras» jubilant when the umpire signalled it. Lowry,. was missing Blundell, but the other bowlers showed no eigne of tiring. Lester survived a' confident, appeal for caught behind from James off J. Newman. Runs were coming- very slowly.
