NEW IMPORTS TAX.
CHINA'S PROTECTIVE WALL. (Received 9.50 a.m.) SHANGHAI, January 1. The local business opinion of the new Chinese tariff, which was officially issued yesterday, admits that the Imposition of import taxes has hitherto been, unheard of in China, but emphasises i.ts general fairness in view of the Chinese determination to establish a protective wall. From that standpoint, no means are unfair.
